Abstract

In the following work the historical, political and economic basis for the system changes were described. The work characterizes the assumptions and the implementation of the Balcerowicz Plan in the most crucial areas of the economy and pinpoints the dependence between the theoretical aspects and the actual effects of the restructuring changes in the economy. The next chapter describes the evolution of Polish foreign trade in the period of transition and during the first two years of Poland’s joining the European Union. The quantitative analysis of import and export was characterized and Poland’s main trade partners were presented. With the help of the gravity model, the determinants of Germany obtaining the quantitative dominant position in Polish import and export were presented. Chapter three characterizes the most important assumptions of intra and inter-industry trade and the methodology of the research (indicator IIT and RCA). The quantitative analysis of the share in Polish-German exchange of goods was made with regards to the production dominant factor and the empirical verification of the assumptions about the qualitative changes in the Polish-German trade. On the basis of trade classification groups SITC Rev 3 of the highest share in the Polish-German trade, the changes in the export of the companies in Poland were analyzed. Additionally, the concise analysis of the theoretical assumptions of the correlation between direct foreign investments and foreign trade was made. The main areas of foreign investors’ interests were characterized and the development of German direct foreign investments inflow was presented as well as their impact on the generating of Polish foreign trade directions.
