The strategie dimension of the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) in enterprise

Abstract

The subject area presented in the thesis concerns the implementation and functioning of EMAS system in enterprises. EMAS is EU instrument primarily aimed at supporting organizations in achieving continuous improvement of environmental actions. The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate strategic themes, issues and outcomes related to the implementation and maintenance of the EMAS system in enterprises. The selection of the sample was intentional. The study covered all companies registered in the EMAS system in Poland since 29 January 2015. Based on the research it was concluded that EMAS is a tool whose implementation allows companies to obtain positive effects in the field conceming improvement of the image and connected with the environmental activities of the enterprise. However, the implementation of the system does not result in obtaining strategic, from the point of view of the company, effects related to increased market shares or the acquisition of new customers, obtaining financial benefits and entering new markets.
