Artur Strzelczyk

Abstract

The dissertation analyzes specific aspects of debt creation on consumer credit cards. It has been shown that some of credit card`s features may increase the possibility of unpaid debt creation. Some mechanisms were proposed that, when implemented, could reduce the negative effects of those features. Dissertation consists of four chapters. First chapter introduces basic terms and provides the analysis of the Polish consumer debt. The second chapter is devoted to identifying what features should have a debt instrument to meet the expectations of contract parties. The analysis was made for both, the bank and the consumer. The third chapter provides an analysis of the different possibilities of debt creation. The results indicate some unique mechanisms of debt creation on credit cards. The last chapter identifies factors that cause the unpaid debt creation on credit cards. Additionally some mechanisms have been proposed that, when implemented, could reduce the negative effects of those credit card features.
