Modern regional policy of the European Union and its implications for the development of local government

Abstract

The issue of development is an integral part of state policy on the central, regional and local levels. The main objective of the dissertation focuses on the analysis and evaluation of the new assumptions of the regional policy and their relation to the local government, which has the following contribute to the development of possible solutions for how best to implement the regional policy paradigms. In the first chapter is defined region and the development of the region. Subsequently, following an overview of the theory relating to the concept of regional development. The second section discusses the current trends regional policies and their evolution in Europe. The third chapter is devoted to the problems associated with the concept and the essence of local government, and the degree of decentralization. Experiences and perspectives of local government of the European Union in regional policy are subject of chapter four. The last fifth chapter verified and evaluated the concept of a new paradigm of regional policy, with particular emphasis on the role of local government. Particular attention was paid to the comparative analysis of scenarios of regional development in the European Union with a polish document named “National Strategy of Regional Development 2010-2020”. The key here is the assessment of the prospects for changes in the role of local government in connection with the formation of a new assumptions of the regional policy and identified ways to adapt the structures and the reorganization of local government.
