Kapitał społeczny a wielkość jednostki osadniczej w świetle badań eksperymentalnych

AbstractThis article presents the results of research on key factors of social capital, such as: trust, trust- worthiness and co-operation. Differences in the form of social capital are analysed according to the size of one’s home town. Previous research suggests that the form of social capital varies along both the rural-urban and central-peripheral axes. The authors apply a novel approach, from a Polish perspective – experimental game theory, to assess social capital. Since these experiments are combined with a questionnaire, this enables a novel way of viewing social capital and investigating the gap between intentions and behaviour. The results indicate that there do not exist any large differences between the levels of social capital according to the size of town. However, small and medium-size towns exhibit weaker forms of social capital than are observed in either cities or rural areas.
