The Banks from the Respect Index and Their Financial Efficiency
AbstractThere are some indexes and rankings in modern economy that may be used to verify the socially and environmentally attitudes and the commitment of organisations, both European and global scale. One of them is the Respect Index on Warsaw Stock Exchange in Poland. This index is dedicated for different kind of enterprises, including banks as well. The main aims of the paper are: to check which banks have taken part in the Respect Index during all editions and to analyze the financial situation of these banks included in the Respect Index. In the last edition of Respect Index are 28 companies, including 7 banks: Bank Ochrony Środowiska S.A., Bank Pekao S.A., Bank Zachodni WBK S.A., ING Bank Śląski S.A., mBank S.A., Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A. and Bank Millennium S.A. The financial situation of banks In Respect Index was examined by ratios: ROA (return of assets), ROE (return of equity), C/I (cost to income), CAR (capital adequacy ratio) and IMR (interest margin ratio). It’s turned out that the financial situation of banks from the Respect Index project is better than in the all commercial banks in Poland. It can be means that the correlation between financial situation of banks and their engagement in the environmentally friendly activities is positive and high.
